Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A11+ Won a Hollow Budget Race
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A11+ still owns the cheap Android tablet slot because Apple’s iPad starts at $449, not because the old A9+ shell got a new screen.
Samsung started U.S. sales of the Galaxy Tab A11+ on January 8, 2026 at $249.99. The 11-inch slate added RAM, a 4nm chip, and a seven years update clock.
It also kept the old TFT panel, skipped a fingerprint reader, and now sits in a market where Apple’s basic iPad is $449.
Samsung Opened U.S. Sales at $249.99
The company confirmed U.S. availability on December 30, 2025. Wi-Fi units ship in 6 GB RAM with 128 GB storage, or 8 GB with 256 GB, both in Gray or Silver. The 5G model launched at $279.99 and, in U.S. testing, has been limited to the 6 GB/128 GB setup.
That $249.99 figure is the 6 GB Wi-Fi start price, not a bundle of the 8 GB/256 GB board. MicroSD expansion goes to 2 TB. A later Samsung.com promotion in June 2026 took $130 off a $299.99 list price and put the 6 GB/128 GB Wi-Fi model at $169.99, a separate sticker from the launch MSRP.
The live discussion around the tablet has shifted with those cuts. Launch-week spec sheets gave way to clearance listings, which is how a “budget pick” ages when the hardware stops changing.
THE TAB A11+ CALENDAR
- November 28, 2025: Samsung puts the Tab A11+ on sale in Australia from $379 and lists it in India.
- December 30, 2025: U.S. availability is announced, with nationwide sales set for January 8, 2026.
- January 8, 2026: U.S. Wi-Fi sales open at $249.99 for 6 GB/128 GB.
- May 2026: One UI 8.5, a point release on Android 16, reaches the tablet.
- June 2026: Samsung.com runs a $130 discount that prices 6 GB/128 GB Wi-Fi at $169.99 off a $299.99 list.
Samsung’s U.S. page still sells the same two Wi-Fi memory cuts and still calls out Google Gemini and Circle to Search. The wall charger is not in the box. A 25W brick is sold separately.
The Same Shell as the Tab A9+
Reviewer Rushil Agrawal spent two weeks with a 5G unit and found the body matches the Tab A9+ down to the millimeter: 257.1 x 168.7 x 6.9 mm. Samsung’s Australian sheet lists 477g for Wi-Fi and 482g for 5G. The older Plus model sat around 480g, so the new one did not chase thinness.
U.S. marketing describes an all-aluminum 11-inch Galaxy Tab A11+ inspired by the Galaxy S series, with Gray and Silver finishes. Agrawal called the chassis matte-metallic, with a single rear camera bump and flat edges. It does not feel cheap. It also does not feel new.
Samsung skipped a Tab A10 in this size after the Tab A9+, then returned two years later with the same outline. Speaker holes, camera deco, and side buttons got a polish. The ports still include USB-C and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The 5G model adds a physical SIM tray beside the microSD slot.
There are no pogo pins for an official keyboard cover. A Bluetooth keyboard still works. Samsung’s own compare chart marks S Pen as not compatible, which shuts the door on the company’s stylus and the Book Cover Keyboard that higher Galaxy Tabs use.
What the Tab A11+ Still Skips
The panel is the choice that ages the product. It is an 11-inch TFT LCD at 1920 x 1200 with a 90Hz refresh rate, the same class of screen the A9+ used. Agrawal measured about 480 nits and said colors flatten off-axis, with a reflective cover glass that fights indoor lights. After a few days the picture is usable. It is still TFT in a year when many $250-class Android tablets have moved to IPS.
LEFT OFF THE A11+
- Fingerprint reader: Unlock is PIN, pattern, password, or 2D face recognition, which Agrawal found inconsistent unless the lighting and angle were right.
- S Pen: Samsung’s U.S. compare table lists the tablet as not compatible, so handwritten notes stay on a finger or a cheap capacitive stick.
- Wall charger: The box holds a USB-C cable, an ejection pin, and a quick start guide.
- Wi-Fi 6: Official sheets list 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, which is Wi-Fi 5, plus Bluetooth 5.3 and no NFC.
- Galaxy AI extras: Circle to Search and Gemini are present. On-device Galaxy AI editing from the S line is not.
Samsung’s Australian spec sheet does give the Plus an IP52 splash and dust rating, which the smaller Tab A11 does not match. U.S. comparison tables do not push that rating, so treat it as a regional spec-sheet item rather than a headline U.S. feature.
A 4nm Chip Carries Seven Years of Updates
U.S. units use a MediaTek MT8775. Global sheets call the same family a Dimensity 7300. MediaTek’s own 4nm Dimensity 7300 chipset specs list four Cortex-A78 cores up to 2.5GHz, four Cortex-A55 cores, and an Arm Mali-G615 MC2 GPU. That is the piece of the A11+ that actually moved.
Agrawal said apps open at a usable pace on 6 GB, with stutters only when several heavy apps sit in memory. PUBG Mobile held 60fps on the lowest graphics settings in his tests. He would not aim the tablet at Genshin Impact or Fortnite. For streaming, browsing, and light play, the board stays out of the way, which is the job at this price.
Samsung has kitted the Tab A11 Plus with a MediaTek MT8775 chipset in the US (or the Dimensity 7300 in global markets), and it is easily the best thing about this tablet.
Rushil Agrawal, reviewer, May 2026 hands-on
The software clock is the other half of the bet. The tablet shipped with One UI 8 on Android 16. Samsung’s Australian launch copy promises seven generations of software upgrades, and the UK product sheet sets the security-update period as valid until 30 November 2032. That window is new for the Tab A line, which used to age out much faster.
DeX runs on the tablet’s own display with resizable windows. Samsung’s Australian footnotes say the A11+ does not support Extended Mode for a dual-screen desktop, so a monitor does not become a second workspace. Battery capacity is still 7,040 mAh, unchanged from the A9+, with 25W Super Fast Charging instead of the older 15W cap. Samsung quotes up to 15 hours of video playback under a dim 720p lab test. Agrawal saw about two to three days of mixed use, 5-6 hours of screen-on time, roughly 40% after 30 minutes on the charger, and a little over 1.5 hours from empty to full.
Cameras stay at 8MP autofocus on the back and 5MP on the front. They are for document scans and video calls. Agrawal said a five-year-old phone takes better photos, and that is the right way to treat them.
Apple’s $449 iPad Leaves a Wide Gap
Apple’s shop lists the 11-inch iPad from $449.00 for 128GB Wi-Fi, with an A16 chip and no Apple Intelligence on that model. The Tab A11+ opened $199.01 below that floor and, during Samsung’s June promotion, fell to less than half. That gap is the market the A11+ actually won.
Agrawal’s verdict was blunt: the A11+ is the best budget Android tablet by default, on a very small hill. Sub-$250 Android options in the U.S. are thin. He pointed shoppers with about $300 at the Lenovo Tab Plus, which he saw near $272, because it uses an IPS panel, a kickstand, and a stronger speaker setup. The OnePlus Pad Go 2 matched his A11+ benchmarks and cost almost $100 more. Those are real alternatives. They are not $249.99 alternatives.
THREE 11-INCH SLATES
| Model | Display | Memory at entry | Entry price | Other |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Tab A11+ | 11-inch TFT, 1920 x 1200, 90Hz | 6 GB / 128 GB | $249.99 U.S. launch | 25W, microSD 2 TB, updates through 30 November 2032 |
| Galaxy Tab A9+ | 11-inch TFT, 1920 x 1200, 90Hz | 4 GB / 64 GB at U.S. start | $219 U.S. launch | 15W, Snapdragon 695, shorter support cycle |
| iPad (A16) | 11-inch Liquid Retina | 6 GB | $449.00 (128GB Wi-Fi) | A16, no Apple Intelligence on this model |
The A11+ does not beat the iPad as a creative slate. It beats the iPad as a $250 family screen with quad Dolby Atmos speakers, a headphone jack, and a card slot. That is a different product, sold to people who will not spend $449 on a shared YouTube machine.
Who Should Buy the Tab A11+
Buy it if the job is streaming, homework, video calls, and a second screen that can take a beating in a backpack. The 90Hz panel helps scrolling. The 6 GB base is enough for that work. The 8 GB/256 GB Wi-Fi cut is the one to take if several people keep apps and downloads on the same device.
Skip it if handwriting, a keyboard cover, or wide viewing angles are the point. The missing fingerprint reader is a daily tax on a slab this size, because face unlock wants a particular hold. And if $270 is already in the budget, the Lenovo path Agrawal flagged still exists.
Samsung also sells a Kids Edition on its own site. The Australian pack is the clearest official description.
KIDS EDITION PACK
- The case: A colourful puffy cover built for small hands.
- The pen: A blue kids touch pen with a tether and a Crocro character keyring, not an S Pen.
- The extras: Character stickers, Samsung Kids mode, and a parental-control leaflet.
The A11+ remains on sale in Gray and Silver, with the same TFT, the same 7,040 mAh cell, and the same rule that S Pen is not compatible. Apple still asks $449.00 for the cheapest 11-inch iPad. That is the race this tablet won, and the reason the win feels hollow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Galaxy Tab A11+ Have a Fingerprint Sensor?
No. Samsung’s UK spec sheet lists an accelerometer, gyro, geomagnetic sensor, Hall sensor, and light sensor, and it does not list a fingerprint reader. Face recognition is the biometric option, alongside a PIN, password, or pattern.
How Long Does Samsung Support the Tab A11+?
Samsung’s UK sheet sets security updates as valid until 30 November 2032, and the Australian launch copy promises up to seven generations of software upgrades, a first for the Tab A series. One UI 8.5 already shipped in May 2026, so the clock is running, even if budget models are not first in line for each drop.
What Comes in the Box With the Tab A11+?
Samsung’s U.S. FAQ lists a quick start guide, an ejection pin for the SIM/microSD tray, and a USB Type-C data cable. The 25W adaptor is sold separately. Australian copies add a warranty card and the same “adaptor sold separately” note, and they rate the typical battery at 7,040 mAh with a 6,840 mAh minimum.
Does the Tab A11+ Work With S Pen and an External Monitor?
S Pen is not compatible. DeX can run on the tablet screen with resizable windows, but Samsung’s Australian footnotes say the A11+ does not support Extended Mode for a dual-screen setup, so plugging in a monitor does not add a second desktop.
How Does the Tab A11+ Differ From the Galaxy Tab A11?
The Tab A11 is the 8.7-inch model with a 5,100 mAh battery, 15W charging, dual speakers, an MT8781 chip, and an IP42 rating. The Plus is the 11-inch, 7,040 mAh, 25W, quad-speaker, MT8775, IP52 machine. Both skip S Pen. Of 128 GB on the Plus, the UK sheet shows 106.0 GB free out of the box, and the cell is rated for 1,200 cycles.
