Saiyaara’s ₹579-Crore Debut Pair Goes Back on Set
YRF’s Saiyaara bet on Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda hit ₹579.23 crore; the same trio returns to set in October for a new romance.
Saiyaara closed at ₹579.23 crore worldwide after a July 18, 2025 release, a Yash Raj Films romance led by two first-time stars. Mohit Suri directed Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The same three names are due back on a YRF floor in the second week of October.
That is the wager, paid and then doubled. The studio put a music-heavy love story on two untested leads, and the ticket line did the rest. Cameras on the follow-up are the receipt.
Two Debuts Closed at ₹579.23 Crore
The film opened to ₹21.25 crore worldwide, the high for a Hindi title with a debutant male lead. The first weekend took ₹83 crore net in India and more than ₹119 crore globally, with multiplexes in the cities carrying the early days.
India finished at ₹337.78 crore nett. Overseas added $19.73 million. The worldwide total of ₹579.23 crore (US$60 million) made Saiyaara the third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025 and the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Trade tallies also logged it as the highest-grossing Indian romantic film, moving past Kabir Singh, and as the highest-grossing Hindi film with debutants in both leads.
Forbes India put the budget at ₹45 crore. Principal photography ran from September 2024 to March 2025 in Mumbai, Goa, Manali and Alibag. Aditya Chopra presented the picture. YRF chief executive Akshaye Widhani produced it. That cost-to-gross gap is why a studio that built its name on star romances is now treating two new faces as a pairing worth a second shoot.
RECORDS THE DEBUT PAIR TOOK
- Worldwide close: ₹579.23 crore, third among Hindi films in 2025.
- India nett: ₹337.78 crore, with a first week of ₹208.5 crore net.
- Opening day: ₹21.25 crore worldwide, the Hindi high for a first-time male lead.
- Genre mark: highest-grossing Indian romantic film, ahead of Kabir Singh.
- Lead pair: highest-grossing Hindi film with debutants in both lead roles.
Critics were cooler than the queues. Rotten Tomatoes logged 63 percent positive from 19 reviews, with an average of 5.1 out of 10. IMDb users have it at a 6.3 from 60,000 user ratings. The film still collected 40 wins and 24 nominations, including Zee Cine awards for Suri as director, both debuts, and the title track. The bet was never a critics’ prize. It was whether young ticket buyers would sit for a 156-minute Suri romance with no star insurance.
Faheem Abdullah Put a Hindi Title Track in Billboard’s Top 10
YRF Music released the seven-song album on July 4, 2025, after five Tuesday singles. The title track, sung by Kashmiri artist Faheem Abdullah and composed with Tanishk Bagchi and Arslan Nizami to lyrics by Irshad Kamil, landed first on June 3. In the week of the film’s release it No. 10 on the Global 200 as the first Hindi song in that chart’s top 10, jumping 177-4 on Global Excl. U.S. Streams that week hit 98 million, up 321 percent, with 96.8 million of them outside the United States.
It was also the first Bollywood song to reach No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Top 50. Suri had assembled a multi-composer album, a break from YRF’s recent single-composer habit, and brought in Abdullah, Arslan Nizami and Rishabh Kant (The Rish) beside Mithoon, Vishal Mishra and Sachet-Parampara. Arijit Singh, Jubin Nautiyal, Shreya Ghoshal and Shilpa Rao took the marquee vocals. The songs did the work a movie star usually does in a first week: they made people book the seat.
Saiyaara album is my tribute to the best romantic albums that I have loved to watch, and it is my tribute to the first Aashiqui, whose music left me spellbound. I didn’t know what hit me and it made me fall in love with music… that love story is still continuing with every film that I direct.

An extended album of score cues followed on September 10, 2025. A year later the studio pressed the whole thing onto vinyl rather than let the songs live only on phones.
What YRF Gambled on Ahaan Panday
Ahaan Panday is 27, the son of Deanne Pandey and Chikki Panday, and the cousin of Ananya Panday. YRF’s talent page says Aditya Chopra groomed him for more than seven years before Saiyaara, including assistant-director work on Mardaani 2 and the Netflix series The Railway Men. That is a long internships-to-lead pipeline for a banner that usually launches names the public already knows.
He plays Krish Kapoor, a short-fuse singer who sets Vaani Batra’s poems to music. The studio then signed him as a YRF hero in the old house style, not as a one-film experiment. After the run he became Harley-Davidson India’s ambassador in December 2025, Tira’s first male ambassador in February 2026, and, with Padda, a Pepsi India face in March 2026. His next lead is an untitled Ali Abbas Zafar action-romance for YRF, with Sharvari, Aaishvary Thackeray and Bobby Deol, dated March 26, 2027.
The family name got him in the building. The seven-year wait is the part the July 2025 poster did not show. Ananya Panday posted “Welcome to the movies my brother” when YRF locked the July date, which is the last time this story was only a debut announcement.
Aneet Padda’s Pre-Fame Work Finally Has a Window
Padda was not a blank page. She had a part in Salaam Venky in 2022 and played Roohi Ahuja in Amazon’s Big Girls Don’t Cry in 2024. Suri wanted a female lead who had not sat through cosmetic work, and she tested out of a large field. On set she wore a yellow dress to the audition, thinking it was the character’s costume. Suri and Panday still pushed for her.
Hunkkaar: The Roar is the tell. She shot the socio-thriller, as Meenu Rawat, when she was 19, before Saiyaara made her a star. The series sat without a distributor until that fame arrived, then began streaming on JioHotstar on September 25, 2026. She has said she was young for the material. The monologue in the last episode is the clip people now send around as proof she can carry a register beyond the romance that made her.
WHERE PADDA GOES NEXT
- Hunkkaar: The Roar: Shot in 2023, streaming from September 25, 2026, with Fatima Sana Shaikh and Raghubir Yadav.
- Shakti Shalini: Title role in Maddock’s horror-comedy universe, dated December 24, 2026, a reported double part.
- The Suri reunion: Lead opposite Panday again, YRF, cameras in October, 2027 theatrical target.
Forbes India put her on its 30 Under 30 list in 2026. Zee Cine voters gave her Best Actor, Female, on the viewers’ side, plus the debut prize. Brand deals followed at Lakmé, Mia by Tanishq, Reliance Trends and Pepsi. The hidden stake in Saiyaara was always hers: a modest résumé that a ₹45-crore YRF romance turned into a slate.
Krish, Vaani and an Early Diagnosis
Sankalp Sadanah wrote the screenplay. Rohan Shankar wrote the dialogues. The film is a loose take on the 2004 Korean drama A Moment to Remember, rebuilt as a musician-and-poet story. Krish is stuck with anger and an alcoholic father. Vaani has just been left at the courthouse by her fiancé Mahesh Iyer, who calls to say he is marrying money instead.
They meet at a magazine office. He returns her notebook, then uses her lines. They write for a pop act called Prince. The diagnosis lands later: early-onset Alzheimer’s. They move to a guesthouse in Alibag to make new memories before the old ones go. At a concert she panics, stabs Krish in the arm, and later vanishes, leaving lyrics titled Saiyaara. He records the song, tours with her pages, and a year on tracks a fan video to an ashram in Manali. The last passage puts them at Wembley Stadium, married, with Vaani still writing.
That Wembley beat is why the anniversary was not held in Mumbai. On July 18, 2026, Panday and Padda went back to the stadium to launch a collector’s edition vinyl at Wembley, a two-disc set of nine songs, 16 score cues and nine dialogue passages, plus a diary of notes from the team. They wrote, “1 Year of Saiyaara. Vaani & Krish at Wembley! I guess it was written in the stars.” In the pack they also said they never knew the film would reach so many people. Netflix had already taken the digital rights, a shift off YRF’s usual Prime Video lane, and began streaming the film on September 12, 2025.
The Same Trio Goes Back on Set in October
On April 15, 2026, YRF announced the Saiyaara team reunion: Suri, Widhani, Panday and Padda, another intense romance, not a continuation of Krish and Vaani. The studio’s own note called Saiyaara the highest-grossing love story in Indian cinema and put India at ₹338 crore nett with about ₹580 crore worldwide, rounding the close. It said the new film would go on floors later in 2026 toward a 2027 worldwide release.
Production timing now points to the second week of October. The working title Satranga has circulated because that name sits with T-Series, and the makers have not locked a title. The brief is an unconventional romance with action in the plot. Suri, when the reunion was first floated, called it coming back home with a new hunger, and said he felt like a newcomer again, anxious about the story and the music.
On October 2, Suri and Panday were photographed together. Padda was not in the frame, which fits a start that is days away rather than a full-unit call. The pairing still pulls edits a year on. The running gag that they have no chemistry and therefore need twenty more films together is the demand the studio is about to meet. The open worry, including from people who loved the first film, is that the second pass cannot mint the same shock, because the shock was that nobody knew their names.

Panday still has the Zafar film in front of him. Padda still has Shakti Shalini dated for December 24, 2026. Widhani is producing the Suri picture again. That is not a sequel. It is a studio deciding that the first bet, the one that looked reckless when YRF locked the July date, is now a line of business.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Saiyaara Based on Another Film?
It is a loose adaptation of the 2004 South Korean film A Moment to Remember, rebuilt around a singer and a poet. Suri first worked up the idea as a possible third Aashiqui film, then moved it to Yash Raj Films as a standalone after the earlier plan did not hold with those producers. He has said the Netflix series The Romantics pushed him to develop Saiyaara on his own before Widhani boarded.
Where Can You Stream Saiyaara?
Netflix began carrying the film on September 12, 2025, in a break from YRF’s long Prime Video habit. Sony Max took the satellite rights, the home of the studio’s catalogue since 2000, though later YRF titles have also moved toward the Star Gold Network. The theatrical run is over; the streaming copy is the version most new viewers will see.
What Does Saiyaara Mean in the Story?
Vaani Batra defines it on screen as a lonely star among the stars, one that burns itself to light the rest, and she uses the word for Krish. That line is also the title of the song she leaves in her diary when she disappears, which Krish then records. The film’s English gloss is simply “planet.”
What Is Saiyaara’s Runtime and Certificate?
The Central Board of Film Certification gave it a U/A 16+ after cutting 10 seconds of intimate footage, replacing objectionable words in four places, and adding a static helmet disclaimer on two-wheeler shots. The certified runtime is 156 minutes. IMDb lists the running time as 2 hours 30 minutes, a rounding of the same cut.
The second film will not get the same free pass the first one got, because the names are no longer a surprise. What YRF is buying in October is still the same stake: Suri’s music, two young leads, and a bet that the queue will form without a bigger star above the title.
