Best Buy Tech Fest Left August and Chased Prime Day

Best Buy marked a 55-inch LG C5 OLED down to $1,299.99 and a 13-inch MacBook Air M4 to $799 during its August 2025 Tech Fest.

The event ran August 13 through 17, 2025, and did not require a paid membership. Those tags were sold as a floor. They were not, and August did not stay the home of Tech Fest.

The August Sale That Looked Like a Floor

Best Buy pitched Tech Fest as a five-day electronics blowout anyone could shop. The public list mixed a current OLED, an M4 Air, AirPods 4, a Roku stick, a floating Bluetooth speaker, and a Dyson stick vac, plus mop-vacs and phone grips in the fine print.

The advertised cuts were real markdowns from the comparable values on the tags. They were also a snapshot of one week, not a promise that the same SKUs would never go lower.

AUGUST 2025 TECH FEST TAGS

The same week, Best Buy advertised 46% off a Tineco Floor One S3 Extreme mop-vacuum, 34% off a Fitbit Inspire 3, and a PopSockets MagSafe grip at $29.99. An Aura Frame Aspen digital photo frame was listed at 9% off, a much thinner cut than the TV and laptop.

The laptops, headphones and vacuums on sale then were the bait. The calendar around that bait is what changed.

Tech Fest Began as an End-of-Summer Clearance

The name first showed up as a late-summer dump, not as a Prime Day clone. In 2024, Best Buy ran Tech Fest through August 25 and told shoppers the event covered TVs, laptops, and headphones before school started. Paid members who spent $250 got $25 back in rewards, a low bar that made the membership pitch easy to try on a single cart.

August 2025 used the same slot. March already had a Tech Fest of its own that year, advertised through March 23, so the brand was already doing more than one turn before anyone pointed it at Amazon.

Deal pages tagged Tech Fest again in mid-March 2026, which fits a brand that now fires whenever Best Buy needs a week of headline percentages. August is no longer the only, or even the main, date.

How Cheap the 55-Inch LG C5 Got

The 55-inch C5 was the TV on the August 2025 list, sold at 35% off a comparable value near $2,000. CamelCamelCamel’s Amazon history on that set, which starts in March 2025, puts the high at $1,996.99 on May 10, 2025, close to that launch-era list.

It also puts the Amazon low of $1,046.99 in February 2026, specifically February 10. That is $253 under the Tech Fest tag from six months earlier. The tracker’s average Amazon price, $1,189.43, still sits under $1,299.99.

55-INCH C5 AFTER THE 2025 SALE

• Launch-era high: $1,996.99 on Amazon on May 10, 2025.
• Tech Fest tag: $1,299.99 at Best Buy, August 13 through 17, 2025.
• Later low: $1,046.99 on Amazon on February 10, 2026.

Shoppers who treated $1,299.99 as a now-or-never OLED floor paid a mid-cycle sale price, not the bottom. February was cheaper on Amazon, and the average across the tracker’s window never needed that August weekend to get under $1,200.

$799 Kept Returning on the MacBook Air

The 13-inch M4 Air at $799 was a 20% cut from a $999 configuration, the U.S. list EveryMac logs for the 10-core CPU, 8-core GPU base. Battery life on that generation is rated up to 18 hours, which is why it sat in back-to-school roundups as the portable default.

Best Buy put the same $799 back on the page in later sale windows. It was not a one-week accident in August 2025. It became the number the store returns to when it wants the Air to look cheap without breaking Apple’s floor for long.

Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices in its own store on June 25, 2026, by $100 to $300 depending on the configuration, in the middle of Tech Fest week. Other chains were slower to move. For a few days, a Best Buy Air tag that had looked ordinary the week before looked like a holdout.

The next chip up, the 13-inch M5 Air, lists at $1,099 on the same EveryMac table. Used 13-inch M4 machines with 256GB of storage were selling on Swappa for about $865 by early October 2026, which is the open market catching up to a year of $799 promotions rather than a collapse.

What Plus Membership Adds at Checkout

The “no membership required” line was true for the core sale prices in 2025 and again in June 2026. It was also the on-ramp. Best Buy’s paid tiers sit on top of a free My Best Buy account, and the paid ones are where the extra money at the register actually moves.

On June 4, 2026, the company cut Plus to $29.99 a year for Plus members, down $20 from $49.99, and raised Total to $199.99 from $179.99. Paid members started earning 1% back on eligible purchases that day, or 6% when they used a My Best Buy Credit Card on standard credit.

A Best Buy first-party survey from February 19 through 26, 2026, found that more than 80% of customers wanted to earn points on purchases. The free account still covers standard shipping. The paid one is what unlocks exclusive member prices and 60-day returns, plus two-day shipping and the points.

WHAT PLUS ADDS ON A TECH FEST CART

• The price: $29.99 a year after the June 4, 2026 cut, auto-renewed until cancelled.
• The points: 1% back on eligible buys, 6% with the store card on standard credit.
• The window: 60 days to return most products, against the shorter standard policy.
• The shipping: Free two-day on qualifying items, with no minimum.
• The extras: Member-only prices and earlier access to some sales and products.

In August 2024 the member bonus was $25 on a $250 spend. In June 2026 the advertised bonus for Plus and Total was $25 in rewards on $600 or more, a higher bar that only pays if the cart is already a laptop or a TV. Total still bundles protection plans, including AppleCare+, 24/7 support, and 20% off repair labor.

Best Buy Opened Tech Fest a Day Before Prime Day

Summer Tech Fest 2026 ran June 22 to June 28, 2026, seven days, and opened at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 22. Amazon’s Prime Day that year was June 23 through 26. Best Buy’s pitch was the same one from 2025, up to 50% off laptops, TVs, headphones, games, and small appliances, with no paid membership required for the main tags.

AirPods 4 were $99, against $129, a dollar under the August 2025 sale. AirPods Pro 3 were $179, against $249. Those two numbers show how a “Tech Fest price” can freeze in place for a year on a mature SKU, even while an OLED like the C5 keeps sliding.

JUNE 2026 TECH FEST, CONFIRMED TAGS

• Window: June 22 through 28, 2026, one day before Prime Day.
• AirPods 4: $99, down from $129, almost the same as August 2025.
• AirPods Pro 3: $179, down from $249.
• Headline cut: Up to 50% off selected TVs, laptops, and headphones.

Deal accounts treated the week as a Prime Day killer. Some of the wildest listings on Best Buy’s own product pages were Marketplace inventory, including a $90 PS5 sold and shipped by Adorama, which a shopper immediately flagged as a third-party mess. First-party doorbusters and someone else’s warehouse glitch sat in the same search results, and that mix is what made the week look crazier than Best Buy’s own circular.

Apple’s June 25 store hike on MacBooks and iPads landed inside the same seven days. Best Buy had not yet matched it, so an M4 Air that had been $799 on and off since 2025 suddenly read as a pre-hike leftover. That was timing, not a new laptop strategy.

The Anniversary Sale That Replaced August Tech Fest

Best Buy turned 60 in 2026 and used the old August Tech Fest dates for a birthday week. A corporate note on August 10, 2026, laid out an anniversary sale running Aug. 17 through 23, with a second wave of offers August 21 through 23. Plus and Total members were offered 10% back in rewards, up to $60, on qualifying buys. That 10% already included the usual 1% membership rate.

Saturday, August 22, was in-store only for six Anniversary Day offers, including a $100 Best Buy gift card for $60, limited to one per customer and at least 50 cards per store. Those one-day tags were excluded from the price-match guarantee. The company also asked people to upload photos of old phones and TVs for a sweepstakes, a nostalgia ad wrapped around the same checkout.

AUGUST 2026, WITHOUT THE TECH FEST NAME

• The week: August 17 through 23, 2026, seven days.
• Member kicker: 10% back in rewards, capped at $60.
• In-store stunt: $100 gift card for $60 on August 22, while supplies lasted.
• The chain: More than $41.6 billion in fiscal 2026 revenue, more than 1,000 North American stores, more than 80,000 employees.
