Reaching our readers

MIND CRON is free to read because display advertising pays for the reporting, and we are glad to work with advertisers who want to reach an international, English-reading audience that follows the news across ten sections. This page explains what is on offer, how it is sold, and the rules that come with buying space here. The rules are not fine print. They are the terms on which the editorial team stays independent, and they are not negotiable.

To start a conversation, write to support@mindcron.com with ADVERTISING at the front of the subject line. Tell us what you want to achieve and we will tell you honestly whether the site is a good fit, because a campaign that does not suit our readers wastes your money and our goodwill.

What we sell

We sell standard display advertising in banner units, and the units are filled through the Adsterra advertising network. Advertisers buy that space through the network rather than from us directly, which means pricing, targeting and reporting are handled on the network’s side and we receive a share of what the space earns. If you already work with the network, our inventory is available there. If you do not, write and we will point you in the right direction.

Our readers arrive from many countries and time zones, and they read across world news, business, technology, science, sports, entertainment, lifestyle, travel, auto and gaming. Contextual placement, where the advertisement matches the subject of the page, works well here for exactly that reason.

What we do not sell

We do not sell sponsored posts, native articles, advertorials or paid reviews. We do not sell links inside articles, and we do not sell placement of a product or a brand inside a story. We do not accept sponsorship of a section, a newsletter or an event, and we do not rent our reader list, because we do not keep one to rent.

Requests for any of these arrive most weeks, often with the assumption that every site does it. The answer is no, and it is not a negotiating position. Readers must never have to guess whether a page on MIND CRON was bought, and the only way to guarantee that is to have nothing of the kind for sale.

The wall between advertising and the newsroom

Buying advertising on MIND CRON buys you space and attention. It does not buy you coverage, and it does not buy you protection from coverage. Editorial decisions are made entirely by the editorial team, with no input from advertisers and no advance sight of stories.

Concretely: no advertiser is shown an article before it publishes. No advertiser is promised a favourable story, a review score or a mention. If your company becomes the subject of a story, we report it as we would any other, and the fact that your banner appears here will not soften, delay or remove it. If that is a problem for your organisation, we are not the right publication for your budget. How this fits with our funding is on our ownership and funding page, and the wider rules are in our editorial standards.

What we will not run

Some advertising we decline regardless of the fee, and we ask the network to block it from our inventory. The list is not exhaustive and we keep the final judgement, but it reliably includes the following.

  • Deceptive creative, including anything made to look like one of our articles, fake headlines, and phoney countdowns, prizes or system warnings.
  • Scams, fraudulent schemes, and get-rich-quick or miracle-cure claims of the kind that prey on readers.
  • Political advertising that hides who is paying for it, from any country, and any attempt to place undisclosed campaign material as ordinary inventory.
  • Malware, forced redirects, pop-unders, cryptojacking and anything that hijacks the reader’s device or browser.
  • Hateful, harassing or illegal content, and advertising that targets or exploits children.
  • Creative that has no business next to a serious news story, which we judge case by case.

Ad load and the reader’s experience

We keep the number of banner units on a page deliberately lighter than we could, because a page buried in advertising drives readers away and takes your impressions with them. Units sit in fixed positions that do not shift the text as the page loads, and nothing is placed to be clicked by accident. A reader who refuses personalised advertising at the consent banner still sees the units, filled contextually, and pays no penalty for refusing; our cookie policy explains how that works.

Reporting a bad advertisement

Advertising networks are large and imperfect, and a campaign that should have been caught by the rules above will occasionally slip through. If you see one, tell us at support@mindcron.com with ADVERTISING in the subject, and include the page, the time and, if you can, a screenshot or the destination address. We will have it blocked. Reader reports are one of the best tools we have for keeping bad creative off the site.

Getting started

Write to support@mindcron.com with ADVERTISING at the front of the subject line. Say what you sell, where your customers are and what you want a campaign to do, and we will reply within two working days with a plain answer about fit and the way to buy. Advertising mail is handled apart from the editorial desk, and nothing you tell us about a campaign will reach a reporter or shape a story. Other ways to reach the team are on our contact page.
