Chinese Ambassador to The Jerusalem Post: Israel-China Tech Collaboration Benefits All Humanity

China and Israel share a deep and longstanding relationship built on mutual respect and cooperation, with a particularly robust partnership in the field of scientific and technological innovation. This collaboration, strengthened over years of effort, continues to yield significant benefits not only for both nations but for the global community as a whole.

In 2017, China and Israel formalized their relationship by establishing the Innovative Comprehensive Partnership, a milestone that has led to substantial progress in areas such as high-tech, artificial intelligence, clean energy, and biomedicine. The momentum behind this partnership was evident to me firsthand during my visit to the Changzhou and Shanghai Innovation Parks, where I witnessed the tangible results of joint projects. Changzhou Innovation Park, for instance, is home to nearly 300 Israeli enterprises and joint ventures, further cementing the two countries’ commitment to technological collaboration.

Moreover, the Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, a product of their partnership, is set to play a crucial role in cultivating talent for future innovation. This institution fosters the exchange of ideas and research between the two countries, ensuring that both nations remain at the cutting edge of technological development.

The Power of Technological Collaboration

China-Israel cooperation has led to numerous groundbreaking innovations that are already benefiting the global population. For example, Israel’s advanced drip irrigation systems have been deployed in China, helping to improve crop yields in places like Inner Mongolia and Yunnan. In turn, China’s new energy vehicles, integrated with intelligent driving systems developed by Israeli firms, are gaining traction in international markets.

This collaboration also extends to clean energy, seawater desalination, and other critical technologies. Through joint research and development, these nations have made significant strides in areas that directly impact global sustainability and health, such as advancements in medical treatments and environmental technologies.

Geopolitical Tensions and the Future of Collaboration

Despite the successes of this partnership, there are growing concerns about external pressures that could undermine these efforts. Recently, certain countries have adopted policies that seek to “decouple” from China, attempting to disrupt global scientific and technological cooperation by creating political barriers. The Taiwan authority, in particular, has worked to undermine China-Israel collaboration, while others have pushed for the formation of exclusive technological alliances based on ideological lines.

These efforts to politicize technological innovation, labeling it as “democratic” or “non-democratic,” challenge the fundamental principles of equity and fairness that should govern international cooperation. Technology, at its core, is a tool for the advancement of all humanity, and it should not be subjected to political interference or used as leverage in geopolitical struggles. Instead, it should be seen as a universal asset, accessible to all people, regardless of nationality, race, or political affiliation.

The Need for Global Technological Openness

In this context, China continues to advocate for openness in scientific and technological cooperation. As part of this commitment, China has proposed the International Science and Technology Cooperation Initiative, which emphasizes fairness, justice, and non-discrimination in global technological exchange. China’s stance is clear: science should have no borders, and its benefits should be shared by all.

Technological innovation has the potential to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems, including poverty, disease, and environmental degradation. By fostering an open and collaborative global environment, we can tackle these challenges together. Whether through innovations in healthcare, sustainable agriculture, or renewable energy, international cooperation is key to addressing the issues that affect humanity as a whole.

A Shared Vision for the Future

The collaboration between China and Israel serves as a model for how countries can work together in pursuit of shared goals. Through continued cooperation in technological innovation, both nations are contributing to a brighter, more sustainable future for all.

As the world faces complex challenges, the need for open, inclusive scientific collaboration has never been more urgent. The China-Israel partnership is a testament to what can be achieved when nations put aside differences and work together for the common good of humanity.
