James Gunn Films Superman’s Escape to the Fortress of Solitude in Norway

James Gunn, the director of the upcoming Superman movie, has shared some details about the first scene he filmed in Norway, which involves Superman’s escape to his ice fortress. Gunn said he chose the location for its natural beauty and varied landscape, and that he wanted to capture the feeling of being in the Arctic.

The Fortress of Solitude is a recurring location in the Superman lore, which serves as the secret headquarters and sanctuary of the Man of Steel. It is usually located in the Arctic or Antarctic regions, and contains advanced technology, weapons, and artifacts from Superman’s home planet of Krypton.

The Fortress of Solitude has been featured in various Superman comics, movies, and shows, with different designs and functions. In the DCU, the Fortress of Solitude was first introduced in the 2013 movie Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill as Superman. It was shown as a crashed Kryptonian scout ship that Superman discovered and activated with his command key. The Fortress served as the place where Superman learned about his origins and his powers, as well as the place where he fought against General Zod and his army.

The Fortress of Solitude was also briefly seen in the 2017 movie Justice League, where Superman returned after being resurrected by the Mother Box. It was there that he reunited with Lois Lane and regained his memories and his sense of purpose.
