Empowering entrepreneurs in the Pacific region just took a significant leap forward. Business Assistance Fiji (BAF), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization and supported by the European Union’s STORAS program, launched Fiji’s inaugural Pacific Agri-Innovation Workshop 2024. This event aims to ignite innovation among entrepreneurs from Fiji, Samoa, and the Solomon Islands.

“This isn’t just about farming; it’s about investing in our future,” emphasized Shaheen Ali, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Trade, Cooperative, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications. The workshop seeks to identify and nurture innovative agri-businesses with high growth potential. Entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas, stimulating job creation and strengthening the agri-food sector in Fiji.
- Key Objectives:

- Provide a platform for entrepreneurs to pitch ideas
- Foster job opportunities in the agri-food sector
- Support sustainable and inclusive economic growth
Inspiring Stories from Local Entrepreneurs
One of the standout participants is Beatrice Nast, founder of Fiji’s first goat milk company. Originally from Germany and now residing in Nadi, Nast offers handmade goat milk products like scented and unscented soaps, foot balms, and body lotions. “My goal isn’t just to sell products; it’s to promote sustainability and support local female farmers,” she shared. Nast ensures her packaging leaves no carbon footprint and sources milk directly from women farmers, fostering community empowerment.
Another inspiring entrepreneur is 27-year-old Avishay Singh from Nausori. Operating Shahils Party Ice and Frozen Supplies, he offers products such as frozen dalo, cassava, grated cassava, taro fries, and pure honey. “Don’t be afraid to chase your dreams,” he encourages fellow youths. Avishay won an agriculture award in 2020 and plans to expand into exports, contributing significantly to the local economy.
The Road Ahead: Pacific Agro-Innovate Competition
