The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is set to host the Partnerships for Education Business Breakfast on Monday, 11 November 2024 in Johannesburg. The event will be led by the Minister of Basic Education, Ms. Siviwe Gwarube, and aims to bring together 100 business leaders from the private sector to discuss strategies for improving educational outcomes across South Africa.
A Platform for Public-Private Sector Collaboration
The Partnerships for Education Business Breakfast is designed as a collaborative forum to discuss how businesses can support the country’s education system, particularly in light of budgetary constraints and growing demand for educational reform. Minister Gwarube will use the event to outline her strategic priorities for the 7th Administration, emphasizing the role of the private sector in driving sustainable improvements in South Africa’s education system.
The event will provide an opportunity to discuss potential partnerships that could deliver much-needed resources, innovation, and infrastructure improvements to schools across the country. Private sector participation is seen as critical in bridging the gaps within public education, from enhancing learning environments to improving access to technology, educational materials, and qualified teachers.
Fostering Meaningful Dialogue on Education’s Future
Key highlights of the breakfast event will include panel discussions, presentations, and networking opportunities for business leaders, policymakers, and educators. The forum will encourage open dialogue about the current challenges in South Africa’s education system, while also focusing on practical solutions that can make a tangible impact on learning outcomes.
With education being a cornerstone of both economic growth and social progress, the breakfast will serve as a critical space for decision-makers to commit to long-term investments in the country’s future workforce. Among the topics to be discussed are innovative approaches to education, improving school infrastructure, and expanding access to resources that can help boost the quality of education, particularly in underserved areas.
